Calling Out The Blatant Hypocrisy In The War On Christmas

Chris Rosebrough has weighed in briefly and brilliantly on the so-called War on Christmas in this blog post "Calling Out The Blatant Hypocrisy In The War On Christmas." Now, I think there actually is a War on Christmas or anything that represents Christ and his church to the world.  However....
Why is it that so many church people threaten to punish non-Christians for allegedly removing Christ from Christmas, YET these same church people give their “pastor” a complete pass when he removes Christ from Christianity Sunday after Sunday?

Shouldn’t Christians instead clean house and boycott all the churches and mega churches that are guilty of removing Christ from Christianity week in and week out?

Why the White-Pinto Debate Matters (Fred Butler at Hip and Thigh)

Fred Butler weighs in with some great observations:
Why the White-Pinto Debate Matters
Now, in the preceding discussions leading up to the debate, those who defended Pinto’s Codex Sinaiticus conspiracy theory painted it as just a secondary issue among Christians. Sort of like amillennialist disagreeing with premillennialist as to how we are to interpret Revelation 20. In fact, in his opening statement, Pinto made the point to say the debate was an in-house disagreement between brothers in the Lord.

If we mean “secondary” in the sense that believing Pinto’s codex conspiracy is the same as teaching a false gospel, well of course I’d agree with him. But declaring the subject matter of this debate a “secondary” issue does not mean it is unimportant...

The Ninth Commandment And The New Media (R Scott Clark)

The Ninth Commandment And The New Media

I disagree with some of what R. Scott Clark says here, but did find this bit amusing:
For example, in Death By Love (Wheaton: Crossway, 2008; p. 170) Mark Driscoll and Gerry Breshears wrote the following:
James Arminius was John Calvin’s son-in-law and greatly appreciated Calvin. He said that, after the Scriptures, he believed Calvin’s writings to be the most profitable study for God’s people. Therefore, the acrimony that sometimes flares up between Calvinists and Arminians need not be so if the examples of Calvin and Arminius are followed by their followers.
As a friend commented when I posted this on Facebook... "What the what??"

Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...

How we went from “Here I Stand” to “My Bad” (Pajama Pages)

How we went from “Here I Stand” to “My Bad”
Almost 500 years ago, Martin Luther stood before his disputed writings and refused to renounce them.

Last week, Janet Mefferd, shortly after her writings had been criticized, apologized and deleted them.

Both had pointed out and criticized corruption in leading religious authorities. Both had truth on their side, yet their responses are worlds apart. How did we Protestants go from Here I stand to Oh, never mind?

Christmas Is Not Pagan (4 part article - Our Redeemer Lutheran - LCMS)

Found another excellent four parter here By Dr. Richard P. Bucher

Christmas is Not Pagan - Part I  (excerpt:)
In fact, if the "Christmas is pagan" crowd merely presented their argument as "opinion," there would be no urgent need to respond. But it is the fact that they condemn Christmas observers as guilty of idolatry and, and in some cases, suggest that Christians who do Christmas are risking their salvation that is just too much. For in so doing they are binding Christian consciences and robbing Christians of their God-given freedom, making unnecessary matters necessary.

Again with the Anti Christmas Pharisees

Since 'tis the season for the Scrooges and Grinches to come out of the woodwork and tell us all how holy they are for not having a live balsam air freshener in their living room, or harming the mother by wasting electricity on sparkly lights, and not giving anyone anything, I thought it'd be good to share some good information about the pagan lies trying to claim the origins of the church's Christmas celebration. I had the most amazing discussion the other day with a lady who started telling me about Christmas Carols being used as triggers. I didn't know what she was talking about at first so I googled and then about fell off my chair laughing. Here's why (scroll down to the section on "Songs and Nursery rhymes.") But then, that's probably because I'm a hopelessly lost member of the Illuminati because hey, I love hymns like "A Mighty Fortress Is Our God" and "O little town of Bethlehem." And they did read Nursery Rhymes to me when I was little. In fact my big Nursery Rhyme book was one of my favorite earliest memories. Now, I wonder if "Hooray for Pig" and "Cat in the Hat" are all coded messages for world domination? Hmmm....

Neo... the matrix has you...

Anyway, here they are:

Christmas/Pagan Solstice celebrations Part 1 (Steadfast Lutherans)

Christmas/Pagan Solstice celebrations Part 2 (Steadfast Lutherans)

Christmas/Pagan Solstice celebrations Part 3 (Steadfast Lutherans)

This brief article from Marcia Montenegro over at Sola Sisters links to quite a few more extensive and detailed articles exposing the hoax of a pagan origin to Christmas.

Sola Sisters - Myths From Hislop: A Call To Examine Facts

(added 12-9-2013) the first two articles linked at the bottom http://www.ukapologetics.net/1hislopbaby.html seem to be obsolete, so I tracked down some of them here:
THE TWO BABYLONS / THE BABYLON CONNECTION? A Book Review Copyright © 1999 Janice Moore

http://www.tektonics.org/guest/hislop01.html Critical Evaluation of "The Two Babylons", by Alexander Hislop by pastor Dustin Segers seems to be offline, but I think I tracked down a copy of it posted on a forum here
http://www.christianforums.com/t2846051-9/

Also note that the last article linked to on that page is from a Catholic source so please read with discernment.  There are certainly valid points made, even though Catholicism has added a lot of their own traditions and human teaching to the gospel, thereby corrupting it.

In particular the Catholic author references circumcision being practiced in pagan cultures and using Jeremiah 9:25-26:

I think the person was understanding it to mean “Behold, the days are coming, declares the Lord, when I will punish all those who are circumcised merely in the flesh— 26 Egypt, Judah, Edom, the sons of Ammon, Moab, and all who dwell in the desert who cut the corners of their hair," ... (meaning all of those are circumcised merely in the flesh)

"for all these nations are uncircumcised, and all the house of Israel are uncircumcised in heart.” (meaning all of these are uncircumcised in heart)

Probably the traditional interpretation of that verse would be more reasonable, that God is saying he will punish the circumcised (Israel) using the uncircumcised (all those other nations).

However, the Reformation Study Bible note says this:
9:25, 26 circumcised merely in the flesh. See 4:4. Israel is outwardly circumcised, but inwardly uncircumcised. The surrounding nations practiced circumcision, but not as a covenant sign of belonging to the Lord. Because Israel and Judah are uncircumcised in their hearts, they are effectively in the same condition as the nations. See Rom. 2:25–29; 4:9–12; 9:8; Gal. 5:6; 6:15.

Documenting the Problems with Mars Hill Pastor Mark Driscoll (Sola Sisters)

Christine Pack has done a great job of collecting a whole bunch of good links about the Driscoll saga, not just limited to the Mefferd incident, but many other problems with him as well. Sometimes we don't see what is wrong when the information comes at us piecemeal or incrementally. Sometimes we need to see it all in one place to understand that there is a debilitating problem going on.

I Told You This Was No Boating Accident!

More astute analysis from Chris as he links to an article from Jonathan Merritt
Late yesterday the story hit the media like a thunder clap that Janet Mefferd was silenced by the Evangelical Industrial Complex.
The story written by Jonathan Merritt of the Religion News Service says it all. Wrote Merritt:
Religion writers at various outlets including Religion Dispatches, Patheos, and Urban Christian News, are reporting that Ingrid Schlueter, a part-time assistant producer for syndicated radio show host Janet Mefferd has resigned. According to these reports, Schlueter claims that the resignation is a result of the Mark Driscoll “situation”:
I was a part-time, topic producer for Janet Mefferd until yesterday when I resigned over this situation. All I can share is that there is an evangelical celebrity machine that is more powerful than anyone realizes. You may not go up against the machine. That is all. Mark Driscoll clearly plagiarized and those who could have underscored the seriousness of it and demanded accountability did not. That is the reality of the evangelical industrial complex.

What We've Learned Lately About Evangelical Ecclesiology (Luthermatic)

My friend Martin over in the UK just posted some astute observations:
What We've Learned Lately About Evangelical Ecclesiology (Luthermatic)
In the last few weeks we have witnessed another scandal upsetting the apple cart in mainstream evangelicalism. Without commenting on that directly, I thought I would highlight what this latest incident reveals about the kind of ecclesiology in vogue among modern evangelicals and their celebrity pastors:
He then has a list of observations, which he elaborates on.  But here for a teaser is the list itself:
1. It is virulently anti-democratic.
2. Silence.
3. Lack of accountability.
4. Higher standards.

Never Have I Seen the Righteous Forsaken

He Will Not Forsake His Saints

Of David.

Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
     be not envious of wrongdoers!
For they will soon fade like the grass
     and wither like the green herb.

Trust in the LORD, and do good;
     dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the LORD,
     and he will give you the desires of your heart.

Commit your way to the LORD;
     trust in him, and he will act.
He will bring forth your righteousness as the light,
     and your justice as the noonday.

Be still before the LORD and wait patiently for him;
     fret not yourself over the one who prospers in his way,
          over the man who carries out evil devices!

Refrain from anger, and forsake wrath!
     Fret not yourself; it tends only to evil.
For the evildoers shall be cut off,
     but those who wait for the LORD shall inherit the land.

In just a little while, the wicked will be no more;
     though you look carefully at his place, he will not be there.
But the meek shall inherit the land
     and delight themselves in abundant peace.

The wicked plots against the righteous
     and gnashes his teeth at him,
but the Lord laughs at the wicked,
     for he sees that his day is coming.

The wicked draw the sword and bend their bows
     to bring down the poor and needy,
          to slay those whose way is upright;
their sword shall enter their own heart,
     and their bows shall be broken.

Better is the little that the righteous has
     than the abundance of many wicked.
For the arms of the wicked shall be broken,
     but the LORD upholds the righteous.

The LORD knows the days of the blameless,
     and their heritage will remain forever;
they are not put to shame in evil times;
     in the days of famine they have abundance.

But the wicked will perish;
     the enemies of the LORD are like the glory of the pastures;
          they vanish—like smoke they vanish away.

The wicked borrows but does not pay back,
     but the righteous is generous and gives;
for those blessed by the LORDc shall inherit the land,
     but those cursed by him shall be cut off.

The steps of a man are established by the LORD,
     when he delights in his way;
though he fall, he shall not be cast headlong,
     for the LORD upholds his hand.

I have been young, and now am old,
     yet I have not seen the righteous forsaken
or his children begging for bread.
     He is ever lending generously,
          and his children become a blessing.

Turn away from evil and do good;
     so shall you dwell forever.
For the LORD loves justice;
     he will not forsake his saints.
They are preserved forever,
     but the children of the wicked shall be cut off.
The righteous shall inherit the land
     and dwell upon it forever.

The mouth of the righteous utters wisdom,
     and his tongue speaks justice.
The law of his God is in his heart;
     his steps do not slip.

The wicked watches for the righteous
     and seeks to put him to death.
The LORD will not abandon him to his power
     or let him be condemned when he is brought to trial.

Wait for the LORD and keep his way,
     and he will exalt you to inherit the land;
          you will look on when the wicked are cut off.

I have seen a wicked, ruthless man,
     spreading himself like a green laurel tree.
But he passed away, and behold, he was no more;
     though I sought him, he could not be found.

Mark the blameless and behold the upright,
     for there is a future for the man of peace.
But transgressors shall be altogether destroyed;
     the future of the wicked shall be cut off.

The salvation of the righteous is from the LORD;
     he is their stronghold in the time of trouble.
The LORD helps them and delivers them;
     he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
          because they take refuge in him.

Why The Christian Media Juggernaut Is Essentially Corrupt - Chris Rosebrough analyzes

This Was No Boating Accident!
If you haven't ever listened to another podcast, you really should listen to this one. In it Chris explains how the Christian Media Industry works.  It is really, seriously, no different than the secular media.  I've taken to calling it the Evangelical Christian Mafia because that is pretty much how they all behave. So Chris Rosebrough analyzes the Mefferd apology in this episode. He concludes that it "was no boating accident. This was a shark attack."  Follow the money... for the love of it is the root of all sorts of evil.

He makes some excellent observations. I would say he's probably spot-on.

Also analyzes the Glenn Beck interview of Mark Driscoll from yesterday. Mark Driscoll seemed very uncomfortable, like a deer in the headlights, meek and innocent.  Very unlike him.   Perhaps he's just getting to be a better con artist.  It was totally surreal to watch Driscoll, in a response to Glenn Beck, lamenting the lack of courage in evangelicalism, when he himself and his buddies are the ones responsible for intimidating and silencing a lot of them. But see, Driscoll wants us to only correct those pagans outside the church.  (Never mind those pesky verses from 1 Corinthians 5!)

And actually, he didn't even do THAT (correcting those outside the church) in front of the Mormon Glenn Beck who made it sound like we are all Christians.  As Chris noted in his analysis, he just let it slide...while not being afraid to contradict Beck regarding Gandhi.  I dunno, maybe he's been drinking too much theraflu.

We can't correct the big guys in evangelicalism.  They are untouchable. If you do you will feel the wrath of the machine. And so, no one wants to suffer a loss of income, market share, or ridicule, or getting flamed on a blog for rebuking false teachers.

But you know, I'm sure our brothers suffering in Iran and China will understand. Mark Driscoll is actually a coward, because he fears and serves the Evangelical Mafia Dons who subsidize his empire, more than he fears God and cares for those who actually have tried to love him with tough love.

Brave Warrior Ergun Caner elected to "Christian" Brewton Parker College in Georgia

Dr. Ergun Caner unanimously elected as Brewton-Parker president
One trustee summarized the vote: “We didn’t consider Dr. Caner in spite of the attacks; we elected him because of them. He has endured relentless and pagan attacks like a warrior. We need a warrior as our next president.”
 I don't think my comment will get approved:

James White issues a challenge to the "Warrior" and his enablers - if he's such a warrior, then send him out to do battle with James White once and for all.
