Why do prominent Christian apologists behave so boorishly?

I originally wrote this only a few days after the podcast aired. I held on to it hoping that some retraction would be issued, in lieu of complaints that would surely come. I know my husband sent one and so did my friend.

There has been no response to those complaints or retraction from AOMIN on this issue that I have heard of.

Chris Rosebrough appeals to the authority of Russell Moore

In the continuing saga of Chris Rosebrough's Kimballgate...

Given that we had seemed to agree on the phone that this whole situation has become so convoluted that reconciliation cannot happen unless we go back and pick it apart, that's what we are doing: picking it apart. I apologize. I know, it is tedious. I apologize again. Unilaterally. At the same time I feel duty bound to see it through. And so I throw myself on the mercy of the reader. I also confess, I am "dissing" Russell Moore pretty much throughout. Sorry, but it can't be helped. I also dissed Adrian Rogers today in a facebook post. I am a wretch. But then it's not as if anyone is ever beyond criticism. Or are they? Maybe I need to read the unspoken rule book again.

The other day (1-22-11 I think it was), Jason was listening some more to "Misadventures in Dubious Discernment." So I have to comment on something that I heard again. Jason came into the room and started playing the very end of this Fighting For the Faith episode. So let me just start by defusing the notion that this is the only thing I or we found to take issue with. Far from it.

Rick Warren's Daniel Plan (CORRECTION)

I have been noticing for a few years now, since my sister started practicing "field control therapy" (a form of energy medicine) how many Christians are falling for New Age mysticism in the form of alternative healing techniques. This is another main channel through which deception is going to come. Christians should not be deceiving themselves into thinking it is science. Eastern medicine and meditation is inherently spiritual, and Eastern spirituality is inherently mystical and anti-Christian. There may be small fragments such as some chiropractic manipulation and therapeutic massage that are not spiritual. However so much of it is lumped together that you really have to exercise EXTREME caution and a highly tuned level of discernment. In addition you have to realize that even those alternative practicioners that do not want to embrace mysticism and eastern spirituality also have varying levels of discernment among themselves.

A thought from 11-24-10 Fighting For the Faith (Misadventures in Dubious Discernment)

I know you're all tired of this but Jason is re-listening to a bunch of the podcasts from the Fighting For the Faith Kimballgate saga. Since we talked to Chris on the phone we seem to have agreed (?) that the whole thing cannot be resolved without going back and picking through the whole thing. It's not that I'm doing this because I personally feel a need to think about this anymore, really. I am just serving as a sounding board for my husband who is the one doing this, for his friends who are having a disagreement. And sometimes I don't even want to do that. But what a guy. :-)

So today it's Misadventures in Dubious Discernment. Again. Last night he remarked that it was much harsher than he remembered it. I nodded quietly. He particularly commented on a line that said Deb Dombrowksi was in egregious sin and needed to repent. My question was "or else what?" He didn't really have an answer, and didn't think there was an 'or else' implied. Well... I have my doubts, but ok.

Questions to think about--how to apologize for something

Those of you on facebook will be able to answer these on my wall when this note gets imported.
POLL (HYPOTHETICAL) QUESTIONS:

1. If you realize you publicly did something wrong to your friend(s), but (according to you) your friend also did something wrong in response, do you have any Scriptural justification to withhold apology for what you did wrong even though you figure the other person will never apologize?

2. If YES then Under what circumstances could you be Scripturally permitted or even advised to withhold apology?

3. Given that the original question posed a public wrong, then If NO then should you apologize publicly or privately?

4. When you apologize for anything you did wrong, whether public or private, what should be your response and attitude if the person uses your apology as justification for their actions?

Just some thoughts to ponder. I'll post my hypothetical answers later as an update to this post.

We're not allowed to be busy (or rather, too busy to talk to Chris)

I recently was told Chris has been going after me (namelessly) on twitter. Yup. Four tweets today. So I responded publicly, with tweets. Of course all these tweets of his are posted on his wall, with people commenting in ignorance (meaning an ignorance of this particular situation, not a general state of ignorance). He's currently being castigated by the Outlaw Preachers for his stance on homosexuality. It's possible some people are thinking those are who these tweets are aimed at. And to be sure, I am inferring, since he does not name names. However by the end of this, you'll see that my inference is well founded.
