I swiped that phrase felonious eisegesis from the great Dr James R White and his book Pulpit Crimes. (highly recommended!)

For some reason or another I was digging through some of my old videos on my computer and found my copy of this video, from which I pulled just the audio, for sake of file size. This is a sermon given by Rev. Judith Mccullough of the Evangelical Covenant Church, at their Annual Meeting Ordination Ceremony, June 2005 (I recall it was around the 21 - 23rd something like that). This is a pretty important event so one has to conclude they consider Ms. Mccullough to be one of the prominent women pastors in the denomination.

You'll note that she left the United Church of Christ because it was TOO CONSERVATIVE regarding the promotion of women to senior pastor positions. Imagine that! -- the UCC, home of Barack Obama and his pastor Rev. Jeremiah A. Wright Jr., -- more conservative than the Evangelical Covenant Church. Oh, the irony!

And to think at a friend's funeral her mind was all on herself and her little 'glass ceiling' (which was instituted by God, btw... so her resentment of that is her resentment of the Almighty, not the UCC church!). I have never seen such blatant narcissism so proudly presented as a 'biblical' message! And that's setting aside all the Roman Catholic mystical parts about mind reading and emotional unbiblical so-called 'visions!'

I beg you to listen to this sermon and see just what kind of 'quality' the Evangelical Covenant is turning out. To be fair, many/most of the male pastors preach the same kind of message.

Paul Washer and Bach: St Matthew Passion

I was listening to Paul Washer today and feeling rather ashamed of myself... and I also got (through other correspondence) to thinking about a piece performed in in 1998 in Mankato MN by the MN Valley Chorale. (the St Peter tornado interrupted our second performance btw).

Prof Dennis Marzolf was directing the performance at Bethany College's new chapel -- and I remember he tried to remind us to keep our mind somewhat 'off' the words a bit because some of us were getting choked up even in rehearsal -- especially in this one part:

This is close to the English version we did. Check out #15 and going into #16 - that was the one that always got me. The words we used were slightly different but this was the recording he had us listen to (reminding us to forget the words they used. lol always a dangerous gamble!)

the translation of #16 is ok in this one but not the same as what we used, both are powerful. [Some of the english translations are kind of ... mediocre.]

"Tis I whose sins have bound thee, with anguish now surround thee, and nail the to the tree. The torture thou art feeling, thy patient love revealing, T'is I should bear it, I alone!"

Then listen to #15 so you can get the sense of the building of tension and then there's this huge pregnant pause after the disciples in horrified grief asking (exactly 11 times!) "IS IT I???"

Then comes the grievous confession by the entire chorale group (and sometimes the audience is asked to join in that one) who all sing #16.

after that Judas asks his question "is it I Master?" But it's the transition to #16 that I find so moving. Especially after listening to Paul Washer today including his wife's testimony (God, bless her! I can empathize).

Needless to say, I didn't make it through the performance either without having to stop and swallow really hard and wipe away a few tears. As I recall, Dennis the director caught my eye briefly and I think I saw a look of concern flit across his face. He looked away lest I turn into a puddle on the floor in front of the gathered audience.

Every time I listen to it, that "T'is I whose sins have bound thee" brings a fresh flow of tears.

^ESV Nahum 3:3 Horsemen charging, flashing sword and glittering spear, hosts of slain, heaps of corpses, dead bodies without end- they stumble over the bodies!

Today was our last day of touring and tomorrow we will begin a non-stop schedule of preaching and teaching until the 18^th of January. Today we went to where they held the Inquisition in Lima, Peru. I was overwhelmingly grieved, mad, and sick at my stomach. The Inquisition was in the 15^th and 16^th centuries and reached its climax in the 16^th century. The Catholic Church in her search to purify the church slaughtered thousands of people. The Catholic Church held the Inquisition to stamp out converted Jews and Protestants. People who were reported to be Protestant or a Converted Jew were brought before the Inquisition and given opportunity to recant of their beliefs. However, even if they did recant they were severely tortured. Those who were unwilling to recant were tortured beyond belief and ultimately killed. The Inquisition building I was in today was responsible for the slaying of more than 100,000 people.

Men were brought before the priest and questioned about their belief and those who were found guilty were slaughtered and killed. The priest had a crucifix behind them that was rigged in such a way that when they found a person guilty they could pull a rope and it would make the head of Jesus nod in approval as a confirmation that Jesus confirmed their guilt. They even had a secret chamber where a person could hide and speak out that the person was guilty and the priest would say that it was the voice of God that had spoken.

The Catholic Church had torture chambers in the back of the building that were used to get people to recant. These rooms were simply unbelievable. They had a whole row of stocks that men’s feet were placed in and they would have to sit in their own bowel movements and could not defend themselves against rats and other harmful animals. The people in the stocks were also whipped beyond belief. They had a table that they laid men on stripped them of their clothes and tied ropes to their feet and hands and would pull harder and harder on the ropes stretching the people until their joints were dislocated. While being stretched apart they were also whipped. They also pulled people apart by tying them to horses that were going in opposite directions. They also practiced the cutting out of people’s tongues.

We walked through underground tunnels and saw the places where many thousands shed their blood for Christ. Death was on every side in that building. My stomach sunk and felt eerie the rest of the day. I cannot understand how these people can be loyal to the Catholic Church when she is responsible for the slaughter of so many thousands. I saw pictures of Martin Luther and John Calvin and under their pictures all of their writings were condemned as heretical. The teachings that we hold dear were condemned by the Catholic Church as heretical and anyone holding t he position of the reformers was condemned to death by the Inquisition.

Next we went to the Franciscan Monastery and I beheld more death than I have ever seen in my entire life. Underneath the church there were literally about 25,000 people buried. The graves were open and there were human bones everywhere. They buried people on top of people for years. There were pits full of human skulls. We also saw whole bodies in tack seated with hands on their faces looking downward.

Two astounding truths come to mind today as I beheld these things with my eyes. First, the buildings were absolutely beautiful on the outside, but inside they were full of death. This is the same picture that is painted of man in Ephesians 2:1 and other passages. Men look decent on the outside, but God sees what is in the interior. Secondly, I could not help but think of the thousands of men who stood before the Inquisition and were unwilling to deny Christ as their LORD and knowing full well that their refusal to recant would bring about the cruelest death a person can imagine. If the Inquisition were to begin in America I wonder how many that fill the churches would be willing to stand for the LORD and not recant their faith. I wonder if I would stand faithful unto my LORD. In the modern American church the gospel cost little to nothing and seems to have little effect upon many people’s lives, but for those who have gone before us we are reminded of the worth of the gospel. Oh that we respond as Paul did, “What are you doing, weeping and breaking my heart? For I am ready not only to be imprisoned but even to die in Jerusalem for the name of the Lord Jesus."

Santa in the Sanctuary...

This is very personal for me because I grew up in this church where Dr. Jack MacArthur, John's father was pastor. Jack refused to teach PDL there.

Mentoring is a trap that your attendees should be alerted to! I can not emphasize this enough!

My original appeals and book I wrote on Rick Warren which I sent you have tragically fallen on deaf ears.

I knew the church was in trouble ever since you led the congregation in singing:

"We know that Santa's on his way, bringing toys and goodies on his sleigh" at the Christmas Service when you were still on Broadway & High. My wife and I looked at each other in stunned disbelief. Apparently you are not familiar with the verse in Isaiah which states that "I will share my glory with none other"...that is except Santa Claus!

Isa 42:8I [am] the LORD: that [is] my name: and my glory will I not give to another, neither my praise to graven images

What you did is an abomination to the Lord and worse because you are a teacher and stumbled the least one of these my children. What's more you sent a confusing signal to all who attending, including unbelievers who could only walk away thinking that Santa is OK? I might expect to hear this in a liberal church, but you are suppose to declare the Gospel and expose false teachers...not promote them! I pray to God for your own sake that you did not have any thing to do with importing the plague of MBTI. But you would not be without guilt, because you brought in Rick Warren.

My only regret is that I did not stand up in the midst of the congregation during that service and confront you directly publicly, as Paul did with the Apostle Peter that all migth fear the Lord and be ashamed of what they had just done!

I am now compelled to expose this on the Christian talk shows aired on hundreds of radio stations around the country, as well as the apologetics journals and discernment ministries for which I am a contributing writer.

It was been recently brought to me attention that Larry Kirkpatrick and Heidi Bolz are spearheading a program entitled "Mentoring" for leadership training at First Baptist Church in Eugene, Oregon. I have thoroughly examined your workbook and researched your websites. As you know, at the heart of this Mentoring Program is Myers-Briggs Temperament Indicator Personality Profiler. I was astonished that this was being taught at all at the First Baptist Church, but equally surprised that you did not tell your seminar participants that this personality profiling temperament divination, along the with Kiersey-Bates Temperament Sorter you employ, is thoroughly based on the occultic teachings of Dr. Carl Jung, who derived it from a demon spirit-guide he name Philemon. At first, I thought you simply were not aware of this, though it is well known and can be confirmed directly on the MBTI website. You and your partner Tanya Youngling may have stated this in your seminars, but it was not stated in the workbook. However, upon researching your website, you identify yourself as a Certified MBTI Trainer, so I know you are aware of this. I personally confirmed Carl Jung's personality profiling that are using, in my correspondence with the Jung Institute in Switzerland, but it is widely known where this MBTI originated. I further document this in my book on Rick Warren. The Mentoring being taught to leaders in your church and being spearheaded by you, also employs Rick Warren's SHAPE Program and integrate the P in SHAPE for its Personality Profiling, which I also address in my book. Apart from the host of other false teachers listed in the contents and resources, I am enclosing my direct proof that through this Mentoring Program, the First Baptist Church is promoting sorcery.

I find it almost unbelieveable that you would quote II Timothy, yet simultaneously promote the teachings of Dr. Carl Jung. II Timothy wars against the very teachers you have imported into the church. "Evil men will wax worse and worse!" Yet you train and stumble entire congregations with it by promoting Carl Jung. I am also a regular contributor to apologetics journals and discernment ministries around the world. Beyond what I am already publishing, I will warn and appeal to as many as I can about this program.

These kinds of things make it all worthwhile

I got this note the other day from a guy I've known since the 80's when I was in high school and he was in college and helping with the youth group (eventually leading it also). This note is a great blessing also to his current pastor, as it has nothing but praise for his leadership.

We now belong to a home church. The church is led by a pastor who has been leading home churches for almost 20 years. He is tired of most churches no longer resembling the biblical model for the Church. Apparently, he was driven out of his former church where he claims there was a lot of fighting going on over the color of the chairs, etc.

The pastor leads out of his home and is biblically solid. He has a tremendous heart for God and his word, and those of his home church, which number between 20-30. He has a daughter married to a pastor, and his wife's parents were missionaries in Europe. So we're talking about a mainstream pastor who could be leading a large church, but is tired of the current church model. He's not some fringe theologian but a man who loves the Church so much that he refuses to be part of the devastation found in so many denominations. If his church grows, he refuses to consider a church building, as he states (rightly so) that man's tendency is to drift from God once there is a building with all the entrapments that go along with it. If we become large he's going to mentor other men to lead other home churches under his leadership. A true biblical model.

Needless to say, he is opposed to Rick Warren. So are all of his congregation - at least the ones with whom I spoke. They just don't know they are opposed to Rick Warren. I've educated a few. They all cite various reasons for having left mainstream denominations, and you or I would recognize all of the reasons as having their roots in Rick Warren, or at least similar methods of leading churches. Music is a big reason, and marketing gimmicks that push out the believers to make way for non-believers is probably the biggest reason. They don't understand what is happening, and why. I understand now.

I was shocked to learn today that there are about 250 home churches in [our local metro area]. And this being the city of the big Christian evangelical organizations. Home churches are a growing movement as many believers are fleeing the large churches that have strayed. We've been very blessed to have found this home church and will probably make it our home. In the current model he uses, kids are NOT separated from parents but fellowship and worship with the adults. All songs are hymns. Though that is my preference, and though I am open to the idea of modern Christian music in general, I believe that much of what passes for modern Christian music is not Christ centered, or uses music that in itself tends toward evil. Can you say, "Christian" rock and roll? What's next? Christian rap and hip-hop?

Anyway, thanks for introducing me to Rick Warren almost two years ago now. This knowledge has saved me and brought my family into a more meaningful understanding and love for the Church.

And that my friends is why watchdoggies do this. So that we might spare someone the heartache of going down the road of error just because no one took the time to warn them.
